Athletics

Athletics is divided into two disciplines: track events (including sprints, middle- and long-distance running and relays) and cross country running.

The OSIG Athletics competition will consist of both male and female individual events for 16U (born 2006 & later) and 19U (born 2003 & later).

Athletes must compete in a minimum of four athletics events, including both track and field activities. Cross country counts as one of the four events.

The most recent International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) Competition Rules Book will apply. Events will be either heats and finals, or just finals depending on the number of entries.

This outdoor sports facility features an extensive outdoor track and field complex featuring an international standard lighted 400-metre polyurethane-surfaced eight-lane running track with multiple throwing and jumping event facilities. The facility also has 3 lighted premium classed sports fields.

Basketball

The 2022 OSIG Basketball competition consists of both male and female team competitions for the 16U (born 2006 & later) and 19U (born 2003 & later) age categories.

The competition format will be determined by the number of entries per age category. The Organizing Committee will make every effort to create a basketball bracket for a double elimination competition.

For specific information regarding the rules and regulations that will be followed please refer to the most recent Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Official Basketball Rules and the 2022 OSIG Sport Technical Package.

Located at 125 University Private (Main campus), Montpetit gymnasium is a large three sections gymnasium that is home to the women’s and men’s basketball and women’s volleyball varsity teams home games.

The gymnasium can be divided into three sections of 722 square meters or in two sections of 1430 square meters. Bleachers and/or chairs will be provided for spectators. 

Soccer

The 2022 OSIG Soccer competition consists of both male and female teams for 16U (born 2006 & later) and 19U (born 2003 & later) age categories.

For specific information regarding the rules and regulations that will be followed for the 2022 OSIG, please refer to the most recent version of The Laws of the Game of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Rules and the Sport Technical Package.

The competition format will be determined by the number of entries per age category. The Organizing Committee will make every effort to maximize the number of games each team receives. Each team will play a minimum three games. Pool of 3 to 5 teams will be created and a round robin tournament will be played followed by a single elimination playoff bracket. If a pool consists of only three teams the 3rd place team will play a third-place team from another pool to ensure all teams play three matches.

Matt Anthony Field

Constructed in 2001, the Matt Anthony Field, located outside of the Sports Complex is made from Field Turf artificial surface and has a seating capacity of 675. This field would be able to host two 7v7 soccer games simultaneously (end-zone to mid-field and mid-field to end-zone).

Gee-Gee’s Field

Located at 200 Lees, the Gee-Gee’s Field is available day or night and built with an artificial surface. On-site bleachers can accommodate up to 3,400 spectators. This field would be another option to host 7v7 soccer games and could have three games going simultaneously (side-line to side-line).

Softball

The game of softball is similar to baseball except the diamond is shorter, the field itself is smaller, there are only seven innings and the pitcher throws the ball underhand to the batter. The ball used in softball is larger than that used in baseball but can rise, drop, curve and change speed during the pitch.

The 2022 OSIG Softball competition consists of male and female teams for 16U (born 2006 & later) and 19U (born 2003 & later) age categories.

The competition format will be determined by the number of entries per age category. The Organizing Committee will make every effort to maximize the number of games each team receives. The minimum number of games each team will play will be three.
