OSIG will feature five of the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) sports and will be an athlete identifier for Team Ontario. Athletes will have the opportunity to compete in one of the following sport categories:
Athletics
Volleyball
Softball
Soccer
Basketball
The OSIG, hosted by Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario (ISWO), and funded by the Government of Ontario, are an important step in the sport development pathway for Indigenous youth.
Formerly known as the Ontario Indigenous Summer Games, the Games first took place in 2016, within the Southwest Region in partnership with the Six Nations of the Grand River. The 2022 Games will give Ontario youth the chance to develop their skills alongside their peers and ready them selves for greater levels of competition.
The Games are important for the celebration of Indigenous cultures and communities’, as youth from distinct communities from across the province will have the opportunity to share and learn from each other and make connections that will last a lifetime.
ISWO looks forward to welcoming Indigenous youth from across Ontario, to participate in an event that will help them prepare for the future, both on and off the field of play.
